Gallery 7-3 - Unusual Images

Sometimes a scene recommends itself for special and unusual treatment.  With most of our work, we strive for exceptional beauty or an exceptional mood that enhances the meaning of the image.  Still, sometimes an image evokes the need to leap beyond the usual constraints into abstract art and unusual visions of reality.  These scenes are always real, sometimes hyper-real. and they have been taken to the level of a dream.  We've been very sparing in this gallery.  Dreams are the hardest images to capture and we've selected only the best.  Take a deep breath, and then take a close look.   Later, be sure and check our other galleries as well; they overlap a little.

Dreams don't always come in small sizes.  Some images in this gallery are principally available in large format (13 x 19" to 24 x 48" paper size--although individual image sizes vary somewhat).

For your convenience, we've placed only a few images on each page of this gallery.  When you are ready, go back to page 1 or 2 of this Gallery, or use the tags at the top to view other galleries on our site and place your order.

Sedona Morning

Sedona Morning© finds grassy hilltops between mountains capturing the sun, while the mountains themselves are just edged in light as they remain in the shadow of other monoliths.  This view of the mountains dividing the Mogollon Plateau from the Sonoran Desert below seems surreal, evoking a reverence for the mystical nature of the area.  Edition size:  39 small; 19 large; artist:  Sherry Shamroth.

Shatterproof

Shatterproof© is a small pincushion cactus found here in the undergrowth of the Sonoran Desert.  Both the cactus and its profusion of orange flowers are very real.  We’ve just worked a little on the background, seemingly shattering it into sharp spines to match the sharp nature of the cactus bristles.  Edition size:  39 small; 15 large; artist:  Sherry Shamroth.

Sonoran Eveningtime

Sonoran Eveningtime© shows the late daytime sun on the lush gardens of Tucson’s Arizona Sonoran Desert Museum.  Part botanical garden and part zoo, the Desert Museum is the place to experience the desert and is as sure to disappoint those seeking the safety of glass-cased exhibits as it is to excite those who want to touch, breathe and feel the real and exciting desert environment.  Edition size:  39 small; 19 large; artist:  Laurie Larwood

What's Up?

What’s Up?© is the question that this prairie dog seems to voice.  These folks live communally in complex burrows and take turns keeping watch for predators.  Still, we think this guy is merely hoping to join Bugs Bunny in Hollywood.  Although cute while standing up like this, they are less appreciated by people stepping into their holes.  Edition size:  49 small; 34 large; artist:  Laurie Larwood
