7-2 - Unusual Images

Sometimes a scene recommends itself for special and unusual treatment. With most of our work, we strive for exceptional beauty or an exceptional mood that enhances the meaning of the image. Still, sometimes an image evokes the need to leap beyond the usual constraints into abstract art and unusual visions of reality. These scenes are always real, sometimes hyper-real. and they have been taken to the level of a dream. We've been very sparing in this gallery. Dreams are the hardest images to capture and we've selected only the best. Take a deep breath, and then take a close look. Later, be sure and check our other galleries as well; they overlap a little.
Dreams don't always come in small sizes. Some images in this gallery are available principally in large format (13 x 19" to 24 x 48" paper size--although individual image sizes vary somewhat).
For your convenience, we've placed only a few images on each page of this gallery. When you are ready, go to page 1, or 3 of this Gallery, or use the tags at the top to view other galleries on our site and place your order.

Homestead ▲
Homestead© is the front garden gate to an old resort in Tucson. Here, the old wheels, pottery and string of peppers are real, as though they had just fallen off a passing covered wagon. The cactus, growing enthusiastically everywhere, needs no explanation. Edition size: 49 small; 39 large; artist: Sherry Shamroth.

◄ In a Flash
In a Flash© measures the instant when these lightning bolts illuminate a giant saguaro that reaching up toward them. The time is just after sunset when a suggestion of red glow remains in the sky. And the blue color?—not just deep sky, but water vapor. And the monsoon storm begins to flash. Edition size: 29 small; 19 large; artist: Laurie Larwood.

◄ It's a Dry Heat
It's a Dry Heat©. Somewhere at the top of a hill in Southeastern Arizona is a little town called "Tombstone" where Wyatt Earp and his friends shot it out with some desperadoes at the OK Corral. Its history, its played-out mines, and its boot hill have given this town the reputation of “the town too tough to die.” This is the real old west that the movies didn’t invent. Edition size: 19 small; 11 large; artist: Sherry Shamroth.

Neck and Neck ►
Neck and Neck© describes these three giraffes. Perhaps they are communing concerning a seemingly sleepy lion on the hilltop beyond. Or maybe they are merely trying to see who is tall enough to reach the leafy vegetation above them. We asked, but didn’t get an answer. Edition size: 49 small; 29 large; artist: Laurie Larwood.

Old Homestead ►
Old Homestead© depicts a lone rusty windmill surrounded by a stand of mature trees. The ranch that was served by this windmill has long disappeared, and the dense growth slows the windmill from its unending task providing water for the rancher’s livestock. Edition size: 34 small; 19 large; artist: Sherry Shamroth.
