Gallery 4-3 - Flowers and Plants

Our digitographers look for beauty in some unusual places, and the high resolution digital camera is an ideal way to capture it. Flowers and plants hold a special mystery, however. We think we know them. But the closer we look, the more delicate and wonderful they become. The work of the digital artist is able to emphasize that intimate relationship in wondrous ways. ◄ On Gossamer Wings

On Gossamer Wings©. Here a little iridescent blue-green humming bird, native to Arizona, is intent on catching some sweet nectar from a Baja fairy duster. This image is rare, and clearly shows the structure of the wings. Usually these critters are caught only with the mind’s eye as a blur flitting between flowers. Powder Puff ►

Powder Puff©, we think, is an apt name for a Sonoran Desert Baja fairy duster. The imaginary fairies that use this little powder puff are probably less than a foot tall. We understand that they pull a branch on one of these little shrubs down to their level, and apply the pollen and perfume liberally. The local bees seem to have a similar ritual.
