Gallery 10-7 - Retired for a Spell--But Still Great!

Well, heck, we've loved these scenes so much that we selected most of them as particularly special in the first year or two that we operated the Studios.  But it is time for a shuffle so that we can feature some new work!  We've moved these images out of our regular first 8 galleries, and we no longer feature them at our shows.  We still love them.  We hope you will too.  And someday when we get really lazy about doing new work, we'll bring these back.

Meanwhile, you can still order them.  If we don't keep them in stock right now, but we will get your order to you within a week.  One last thing:  because they aren't featured, you can buy two for the price of one.  That is, the posted price is for 1 of the images in Gallery 10--but you can also select any other image in this gallery for free (same size or smaller).

For your convenience, we've placed only a portion of our retired images on each page of this gallery.  When you are ready, go to pages 1 (A-C), 2 (D-F), 3 (G-J), 4 (K-M), 5 (N-R), or 6 (S) in this Gallery, go to  Galleries 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or  8 , Check Prices, or place your order:   Go to Order Blank       E-mail to Quail Lane Studios.

Take the Old Road Down

Take the Old Road Down© shows a bit of the vista from the Brazil’s Blue Rock region looking down toward the South Atlantic.  Here the rain forest has been gracefully sculptured by farms and vineyards.  The old road winds around the soft hills toward the sea.  Here it can be seen cutting through the fertile red soil.  The plants in the foreground are awaiting the southern monsoon rains.  Edition size:  29 small; 11 large; artist:  Laurie Larwood.

Taking Charge

Taking Charge© is this colorful desert lizard.  Although he is actually only half a foot long, he strikes terror in the hearts of passing bugs.  From his perch on this rock, we’d guess his pushups and regal stature elicit instant admiration on the part of the many female lizards in his realm.  Edition size:  39 small; 15 large; artist:  Laurie Larwood.

Taking the Tour

NEW!  Taking the Tour© is the work of a delicate orange dragonfly, caught here with its wings fully extended between the lily pad and the lily.  The scene is by a pond in Southern Arizona and seems a nearly perfect illustration of the unity and serenity of the worlds of life.  Edition size:  39 small; 15 large; artist:  Sherry Shamroth.

Through Cloistered Arches

Through Cloistered Arches© brings to mind the times of the awesome push north by early Spanish monks bringing their civilization and their religion to the Indians and early settlers.  The mission on which this image is based still waits for their return, outside San Antonio, now in Texas.  Edition size:  49 small; 11 large; artist:  Sherry Shamroth.

Touched by Beauty

Touched by Beauty© refers to either the profusion of flowers on this lantana or the butterfly.  You can choose.  The way we think of it, beauty attracts beauty.  The butterfly is taking in a little nourishment and enjoying the setting and, meanwhile, we are sure that the flowers are being pollinated by someone who is motivated by their beauty to do a fine job of it.  Edition size:  39 small; 15 large; artist:  Sherry Shamroth.

Tucson Citiscape

Tucson Citiscape© depicts the Tucson court building from across a portion of the old Spanish-era military fort and marching grounds.  The grounds are now a city park, adorned with the greenery of Tucson’s semi-tropical climate, but also containing varieties of cactus and ocotillo appropriate to Tucson’s location in the Sonoran desert.  Edition size:  49 small; 11 large; artist:  Laurie Larwood.

Typhoon Weather

Typhoon Weather© was supposed to be a dry spell on the windward side of the little island in the Pacific. The surprise was the gust that turned quickly to a great tropical storm, inundating the shore and reminding Hawaiians of the supremacy of water over land.  Edition size:  89 small; 11 large; artist:  Laurie Larwood.

Up Late

Up Late©.  Isn’t that barn owl supposed to be in bed by now?  We always thought these guys were daylight-impaired.   But this one seems to have been unable to sleep.  Perhaps he was disturbed from his resting place by another animal or felt the need for a late snack.  Either way, here he is peering down from a high perch on a blooming saguaro in late spring in the Sonoran Desert.  Edition size:  49 small; 24 large; artist:  Laurie Larwood.

Up the Coast

Up the Coast© contains a bridge as a central feature.  The bridge serves to link our grassy vantage point with the roadway seen winding up the wild mountains miles to the north toward San Francisco and the fog.  The soft calm of the pastel foreground belies the advancing coastal fog of the night.  Edition size:  49 small; 11 large; artist:  Sherry Shamroth

View from the Ledge

View From the Ledge© overlooks Indian Canyon outside California’s Palm Springs.  The ledge is high on a rocky cliff, and marks the end of the trail for artists and photographers.  Leave the boxes and brushes behind; anything further is done with climbing equipment.  Either way, the view is superb.  Edition size:  49 small; 11 large; artist:  Laurie Larwood

Visit to the Old Town

Visit to the Old Town© is based on a portion of old Lisbon.  Steps, stairs and flowered balconies are everywhere.  The sight is subtle and breath-taking, as the colors and textures play with the shadows of the past to stimulate a dream-like quality to the day.  Edition size:  49 small; 11 large; artist:  Laurie Larwood.

Volcano Awaits

Volcano Awaits© for your visit to Maui. Take the winding road to the very top, then get off the main trails and pay your respects to the old gods. The dangerous look produced here is of one of the auxiliary vents, situated inside the mouth of the enormous crater.  Edition size:  89 small; large: Sorry, the large size is Sold Out; artist:  Laurie Larwood

Wait for the Wave

Wait for the Wave©. We see surfers off the beaches on every continent. The unusual element about this beach outside Sydney was the combination of rocks, trees, and threatening sea framing this pensive surfer carefully considering his next wave. Don’t you want to join him?  Edition size:  89 small; 11 large; artist:  Laurie Larwood.

Watch Over the Canyon

Watch Over the Canyon© shows a rarity: a distinct daytime moon. The canyon itself is in southern Nevada, a part of the storied Red Rock area where the Joshua trees, cholla, and wild horses and donkeys replace what we call civilization with their own rough splendor and long shadows.  Edition size:  89 small; 9 large; artist:  Laurie Larwood.

Wild Rose

Wild Rose© shows us its full beauty after a gentle spring rain.  Both its colors and its petals are deeply saturated in this effusive display of floral beauty.  We won’t guarantee that there isn’t a thorn hidden somewhere, but you can safely get close enough to see whether the gentle scent still lingers.  Edition size:  39 small; 19 large; artist:  Laurie Larwood

Window to the West

Window to the West© is found by climbing up out of New Mexico’s Chihuahuan Desert into the towering rock garden of the Chiricahua National Monument.  There, through nature’s own windows, are the broad Wilcox Playa and, further to the west, Cochise Stronghold and the west’s great Sonoran Desert.  Edition size:  39 small; 15 large; artist:  Laurie Larwood.

Windy Point

Windy Point© is a mystical place high in the Santa Catalina Mountains overlooking Tucson, Arizona.  There, in the springtime, a magnificent bloom of pink, yellow, blue and other wildflowers brings color to the sparkling days.  The mountains of these sky islands tower over the Sonoran Desert below, letting nature at its wildest meet comfortably with civilization.   Edition size:  39 small; 24 large; artist:  Laurie Larwood.

Wild Bunch

Wild Bunch© is an unruly and unknowable mob.  Is the lantana a single flower, or a rosette of varying flowers from the same flower head?  On one plant, a single cluster may have a variety of different colors, with the center appearing to be a different type of flower entirely.  Enjoy the difference!  Edition size:  49 small; 11 large; artist:  Sherry Shamroth

Winter's Coming

Winter’s Coming© is a portion of the central Sierra Nevadas looking westward into California.  Judge winter here by how far down the slope the snow has come.  In summer it retreats up to the very peaks; by late winter, it may cover the field that it threatens to overpower in this picture.  Edition size:  49 small; 11 large; artist:  Laurie Larwood
