10-6 - Retired for a Spell--But Still Great!

Well, heck, we've loved these scenes so much that we selected most of them as particularly special in the first year or two that we operated the Studios. But it is time for a shuffle so that we can feature some new work! We've moved these images out of our regular first 8 galleries, and we no longer feature them at our shows. We still love them. We hope you will too. And someday when we get really lazy about doing new work, we'll bring these back.
Meanwhile, you can still order them. If we don't keep them in stock right now, but we will get your order to you within a week. One last thing: because they aren't featured, you can buy two for the price of one. That is, the posted price is for 1 of the images in Gallery 10--but you can also select any other image in this gallery for free (same size or smaller).
For your convenience, we've placed only a portion of our retired images on each page of this gallery. When you are ready, go to pages 1 (A-C), 2 (D-F), 3 (G-J), 4 (K-M), 5 (N-R), or 7 (T-Z) in this Gallery, go to Galleries 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 , Check Prices, or place your order: Go to Order Blank E-mail to Quail Lane Studios.
Retired Images S

◄ Secret Garden
Secret Garden© is only a secret if you don’t know about the incredible beauty of the Mendocino coastline. Here, we admit to peering over the fence. The day was overcast with fog and the colors were super-saturated. Try to imagine what is beyond that open gate. Edition size: 89 small; 11 large; artist: Laurie Larwood.

◄ Setting Sail
Setting Sail© shows a small rocky outpost in Alaska’s Prince William Sound. The trees seem to provide a sail to the rocks’ ship. Rocks, sea, sky, and mountains reflect one another and share the deep coloration and impenetrable shadows testifying to the season and their northerly latitude. Edition size: 39 small; 15 large; artist: Laurie Larwood.

◄ Smile
Smile© is what we tell our friends before we take their photo. We didn’t anticipate that this frog would be so pleased by our recognition as to mug for the camera. On the other hand, her little pond seems so pretty and secure that we understand why she is so happy. Edition size: 49 small; 11 large; artist: Sherry Shamroth.

◄ Snacking Between Meals
New! Snacking Between Meals©. Squirrels seem to have two tasks before them. They are always cute and seem to get into strange positions on unreachable objects. Their second task is storing away food. Judging from the bulging midriff of this little guy, he seems to be ready for a long and satisfying winter. Edition size: 39 small; 15 large; artist: Laurie Larwood.

◄ Soft and Sharp
Soft and Sharp© is a delightful little flowering cactus found in Sonoran desert gardens. As with most cacti, the look of the flower is deceptive. Although the flower is often delicate and lovely, any incautious embrace reveals its relationship to the spines below. Edition size: 89 small; 11 large; artist: Laurie Larwood.

◄ Solitary Life
Solitary Life© shows a serene, single hedgehog cactus seemingly doing the impossible: hanging in space as it grows from a rock. Not really alone, this cactus has buddies on the other side of the rock. The spare, minimalist appearance of the image results entirely from the natural lighting. Edition size: 89 small; 9 large; artist: Laurie Larwood.
◄ Sonoran Springtime
Sonoran Springtime© shows something special about the Sonoran Desert—with two rainy seasons, it supports hundreds of varieties of flowering plants. And, of course, it also features an incredible number of flowering cacti. We haven’t added a single blossom to this image—we didn’t need to. Edition size: 39 small; 24 large; artist: Laurie Larwood.

◄ Sparkling Rose
Sparkling Rose©. Actually, this is the rosy flower of a little barrel cactus. The cactus is only a few inches in diameter, and the flower is nearly as large. We don’t know the variety of this wonderfully delicate confection…only that it appears once or twice a year for a few days to tease us with its beauty, and then is gone again. Edition size: 29 small; 19 large; artist: Sherry Shamroth.

◄ Startin' Fast
Startin’ Fast© seems at first like a tough way to win a rodeo. But the judges score both by whether the rider lasts the full time and by how rough the ride was. By the look of this beginning, we expect that this rider will win the rodeo—if he can last the full time. Our bets are on…. Edition size: 49 small; 34 large; artist: Laurie Larwood.

◄ Still Calling the Flock
Still Calling the Flock© is an old Spanish mission south of San Antonio. Although there are several missions in the area, this one is, to us, the most evocative of its origins. Both elegant and spare, its bells are standing ready to call the faithful. Edition size: 89 small; 11 large; artist: Laurie Larwood.

◄ Still Standing
Still Standing© shows a bare tree. Some time ago, it looked much like the one behind it, but its life has ended. Nonetheless, it doesn’t give up and still stands against the elements on the high banks of a stream in the Sierra Nevada range. Edition size: 89 small; 11 large; artist: Laurie Larwood.

◄ Stormy Night in the Bush
Stormy Night in the Bush© shows vividly the perils of camping on stormy nights. Here the bush is along the Southeastern coast of Australia. The time is late evening , a time when the surroundings are receding, and the long stormy night is just closing in. Can you smell the rain yet? Edition size: 49 small; 11 large; artist: Laurie Larwood.

◄ Summer Glow
Summer Glow©. We caught this delicate little beauty glowing in the sunset on a tree in a coastal community of Sonora. Along the coast of the Sea of Cortez, the climate is sufficiently temperate and moist that many of the flowers taken as annuals in the north become sturdy. This little flower resembles our rose of Sharon or tree hibiscus. Edition size: 29 small; 11 large; artist: Sherry Shamroth.

◄ Summer's End
Summer’s End© often comes swiftly in the Sierra Nevadas. Other times, the snow levels descend gradually, giving the aspens time to turn to yellow and orange. The sun glows through the backs of the aspen leaves, giving them a bright iridescent quality as they shimmer in the breezes. Edition size: 49 small; 11 large; artist: Sherry Shamroth.

◄ Sunburst
Sunburst©. Here is a cluster of sunflowers growing in a wild profusion where they aren’t expected to be. They aren’t in the pot to the right; they are just all by themselves, facing the sun and brightening the day. And the pot to the right?—these are wild things; they wouldn’t consider being seen in a pot, no matter how ornate it was. Edition size: 29 small; 11 large; artist: Laurie Larwood.
