Gallery 10-4 - Retired for a Spell--But Still Great!

Well, heck, we've loved these scenes so much that we selected most of them as particularly special in the first year or two that we operated the Studios.  But it is time for a shuffle so that we can feature some new work!  We've moved these images out of our regular first 8 galleries, and we no longer feature them at our shows.  We still love them.  We hope you will too.  And someday when we get really lazy about doing new work, we'll bring these back.

Meanwhile, you can still order them.  If we don't keep them in stock right now, but we will get your order to you within a week.  One last thing:  because they aren't featured, you can buy two for the price of one.  That is, the posted price is for 1 of the images in Gallery 10--but you can also select any other image in this gallery for free (same size or smaller).

For your convenience, we've placed only a portion of our retired images on each page of this gallery.  When you are ready, go to pages 1 (A-C), 2 (D-F), 3 (G-J), 5 (N-R), 6 (S), or 7 (T-Z) in this Gallery, go to  Galleries 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or  8 , Check Prices, or place your order:   Go to Order Blank       E-mail to Quail Lane Studios.

Retired Images K - M

King of the Hill ►

King of the Hill© may be the house at the very top. But the hills themselves are in partnership with the sea to take charge of this image along California’s coastline south of San Francisco. The natural and manmade arches provide a sense of perspective.  Edition size:  89 small; 9 large; artist:  Laurie Larwood.

  Knee High

Knee High© is a cypress knee thrusting gamely above the water of a Southeastern US coastal swamp.  Legend has it that the really tall cypress knees were cut centuries back to carve the figureheads of pirate ships operating off these coasts.  This one would like to be that mighty some day.  Edition size:  49 small; 11 large; artist:  Laurie Larwood

Last Voyage

Last Voyage© is a wall panel on an old building along a road in Lisbon. Close by the Atlantic, we like to think that the building somehow viewed and captured the immortal voyages of the early European explorers to the New World.  Now they are safely preserved through time.  Edition size:  89 small; 9 large; artist:  Laurie Larwood.

Life in the Rocks

Life in the Rocks© is the best that this little aloe can expect.  Its bright red tips were apparently acquired in a spate of unusually cold recent weather and suggest another element of contention.  Nonetheless, the aloe is doing marvelously and seems to have a bright future ahead.  Edition size:  49 small; 11 large; artist:  Laurie Larwood.

   Looking for the Alligator

Looking for the Alligator© would be appropriate in this South Carolina swamp.  The dark cut in the yellow-green drift of algae offers a tip that something mysterious passed through the water.  Perhaps it is time to turn around and look behind….   Edition size:  49 small; 11 large; artist:  Sherry Shamroth

 Looking Toward a Sunny Day

Looking Toward a Sunny Day© is a bougainvillea flower bract. In the morning it seems that they strive to face into the sun, at once both absorbing its light and reflecting its heat. On close inspection, the flower is marvelously delicate.  Edition size:  89 small; 11 large; artist:  Laurie Larwood.

Lost in the Forest

Lost in the Forest©, we agree, seems unworldly.  The bark on these trees in a forest on Maui really is multi-colored, with lovely shades of red and green.  The quality of green ranges from understated to iridescent, and the textures are uniformly soft, smooth and inviting to the touch.  Edition size:  49 small; 11 large; artist:  Laurie Larwood.

Lunch in the Garden

Lunch in the Garden© is always enjoyable.  In this case, the garden contains flowering brittlebrush.  And, of course, the flowers are pollinated and eaten by insects.  The real freeloader here, having caught his lunch, seems quite proud of his position at the top of this food chain.  Edition size:  49 small; 11 large; artist:  Laurie Larwood

Mesquite Mountain

Mesquite Mountain© depicts a tangled mesquite tree growing assertively from an even more tangled and weathered silvery stump.  Background mountains and boulder-strewn hillsides frame Indian Canyon outside Palm Springs in Southern California.  Edition size:  10 small; 11 large; artist:  Sherry Shamroth.

Monsoon

Monsoon© is a time filled with expectation.  Winds presage the rains, and they are followed by the thousands of beautiful green growing things.  The wind is a constant, and here a palm must contend with it alone, in this scene with the jungle-covered hills in the background.  Edition size:  49 small; 11 large; artist:  Sherry Shamroth

Morning Glow

Morning Glow© appears first at the tip, and gradually extends to the entire cup of these flowers bending gratefully toward the light.  These are the flowers of a trichocereus cactus, and the glow is real.  Although the sun has barely reached the body of the plant, the sun’s glow already is starting to light up the surroundingsEdition size:  39 small; 15 large; artist:  Laurie Larwood.

Morning of Fire

Morning of Fire© is as serious as it is beautiful. Living in the mountains, in the west, the possibility of forest fire is always kept in mind. Here the sun is just up; it is midsummer, and the sky is still nearly black. This fire was in the Sierra Nevada range between Nevada and California.  Edition size:  89 small; 11 large; artist:  Laurie Larwood.

Mountain Pool

Mountain Pool© collects along the Little Truckee River in the northern Sierra Nevada mountains.  The pool is little more than a few drops of rain and a little snow melt refresh it, but together they have been enough to sculpt a deep valley, blocked here by an ancient granite volcanic dike.  Edition size:  49 small; 11 large; artist:  Laurie Larwood

Must Be Halloween

Must Be Halloween© teased us.  Honestly, we don’t recall if these flowers are snap dragons or not, and we don’t even recall how their image got into our camera or went from there to the studio.  Somehow, these pumpkin-shaped flowers, with their cute, beady little white eyes came to dominate our imagination.  It must be magic.  Or something in the soil.  Edition size:  49 small; 11 large; artist:  Laurie Larwood
