Gallery 10-1 - Retired for a Spell--But Still Great!

    Well, heck, we've loved these scenes so much that we selected most of them as particularly special in the first year or two that we operated the Studios.  But it is time for a shuffle so that we can feature some new work!  We've moved these images out of our regular first 8 galleries, and we no longer feature them at our shows.  We still love them.  We hope you will too.  And someday when we get really lazy about doing new work, we'll bring these back. 

Meanwhile, you can still order them.  If we don't keep them in stock right now, but we will get your order to you within a week.  One last thing:  because they aren't featured, you can buy two for the price of one.  That is, the posted price is for 1 of the images in Gallery 10--but you can also select any other image in this gallery for free (same size or smaller).

◄ Against the Tide

   Against the Tide© might be labeled differently during a storm.  The ice plants and other flora growing on the foreground rocks are dependent on the moisture of the ocean, and on its forgiving them their reckless life on the edge.  Imagine a storm surge over the barren background rocks.  Edition size:  49 small; 11 large; artist:  Sherry Shamroth. 

◄ All Alone

   All Alone©.  The expression makes us feel abandoned, like this little shack along the Northern California coast.  The shack is still serviceable, and someone might move in with no down payment and easy terms.  Until then, it waits, silently, hopefully, alone.  Edition size:  49 small; 11 large; artist:  Laurie Larwood. 

◄ Alpine Glory

  Alpine Glory© can be viewed a little way out of Gerlach in northern Nevada. Cut off the paved road south of town and head out east over the dirt track. Ignore the ruts and go to the very top of the mountain range. When you are up there, walk to the top of the nearest hill. Toward sundown on a snowy day, the lichens on the rocks seem to begin to glow.  Edition size:  89 small; 9 large; artist:  Laurie Larwood.

◄ Arabesque Glory

    Arabesque Glory© is a majestic interior column of the Hassan II mosque in Casablanca. The incredible detailing from the Koran, combined with a great historical stream of fine craftsmanship, showcases the artistic skills of the Arab world. For the record, we took this shot before the tragedy of 9/11; the image is too fine to pass up now.  Edition size:  89 small; 11 large; artist:  Laurie Larwood.

◄ Balancing Act

   Balancing Act© describes the performance of this rocky outcrop in Arizona’s Chiricahua National Monument.  The Monument is a fantastic rock garden of enormous weather-carved sandstone shapes thrusting improbably above the Chihuahuan Desert plains on either side.  The winding trail to the top is a child’s imagination of forest strewn with labyrinthine formations.  Edition size: 39 small; 19 large; artist:  Laurie Larwood.

◄ Best of the Class

   Best of the Class© is a variety of sunflower, wide-eyed with the pleasure of showing itself to the sun,  This flower seems to glow with enthusiasm, while its neighbor to the right has already passed its prime, and the neighbor to the left is just preparing for the sun’s movement across the sky.  Edition size:  39 small; 15 large; artist:  Laurie Larwood.

◄ Bow to the Winds

    Bow to the Winds© is a small scene we found too delightful to pass up. This was just a simple stalk of grass along the edge of a stream, but one with a flowering head bent double by…perhaps the wind? A day later, it was gone.  Edition size:  89 small; 9 large; artist:  Laurie Larwood.

◄ Come Watch the Sunrise

Come Watch the Sunrise© takes advantage of the quality of light at the ocean side in Hawaii. Humidity softens distant lines and seems to throw a light veil over areas where a strong light would otherwise result in hard contrasts. The sunrise is still dreamtime.  Edition size:  89 small; 11 large; artist:  Laurie Larwood.

◄ Cup of Gold

   Cup of Gold© is nothing more exotic than a wild roadside poppy enjoying the sun in the early spring.  Called a Sonoran or a California poppy, this one and its friends dance in vast carpets across the desert floor when they’ve been given a good drink by the unpredictable winter rains.  Edition size:  49 small; 11 large; artist:  Sherry Shamroth.
